Well here goes nothing…
As this school year wraps up, I have decided that to better prepare myself for next year and all future years, I will chronicle everything (or as many things as I can!) that I decide to do and how it works. That way, when this time next year rolls around and I am looking back to tweak and revamp things, I won’t be stuck where I am now. I remember having all these great ideas at the end of the year last year and throughout the year of things I would like to try, but I can’t remember the ACTUAL details. So here is my remedy. Create a blog. And hopefully remember to update/actually blog every once and awhile so that I have these great ideas to look back on.
Since this is the first post on this blog, I’ll start by sharing a little about myself. I am about to finish up my fifth year teaching at a high school in Northern Virginia. This past year I taught Algebra 1, Pre-DP Algebra 2 and IB Math SL 1. For those of you who are not familiar with IB or Pre-DP classes, they are very similar to AP/Pre-AP classes, but part of the International Baccalaureate program. I ended up with some really great kids this year and I’m going to be sad to leave them in 5 weeks (okay, maybe a little happy to start my summer too!) Next year, I will be moving to another high school across the county to be closer to where I live. I am transferring because I just had a baby in November, and I want to be closer to home instead of spending almost an hour and a half in the car everyday. This way I can spend more time at home with my adorable son. Transferring to a new high school will also mean brand new preps for me. I am going to be teaching Geometry next year, which in my 5 years of teaching, I have somehow avoided teaching. (I’ve been a hard-core Algebra gal!) I am super excited to start a new adventure AND be able to broaden my teaching skills to include geometry!
So there you have it. A little about me, a little about my journey and a lot of math to be excited about!
Thanks for joining me and learning with me as I reminisce on my past years of teaching and prepare to begin my sixth year of teaching!
